"Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 and has become the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization. It is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
At 2.5 years old, my son Ben was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder—Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). PDD-NOS is one of the diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum. PDD-NOS is characterized by delays in the development of socialization and communication skills. These may include delays in using and understanding language, difficulty relating to people, unusual play with toys and other objects, difficulty with changes in routine or surroundings and repetitive body movements or behavior patterns. Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States. It now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys.
In 2011, my wife and I became involved with the Washington DC Walk Now for Autism Speaks event and started Team Ben. The past two years integrateIT has been very gracious with its charitable donations to Team Ben and participation in the Walk. We look forward to continuing this annual walk in DC with Autism Speaks and believe that through the help of so many amazing people that autism will one day be cured. The more the public is made aware of autism, the better the lives will be for those with autism and those connected to autism."
